Driver’s Coverage
Driver’s coverage is called “Liability” and it is an amount of money (you choose) available to pay your legal defense and settlement when you are responsible for someone else’s injuries, lost wages, pain and suffering and damage to their property.
You choose the amount of money you want protecting you. You want to choose an amount equal to or greater than all of your assets because when you get sued after an accident you want your insurance to pay rather than paying out of pocket or having to sell your assets to pay the other person.
Your policy will show this amount first and it typically look like this
(Example)
*Bodily injury (BI) liability 100/300
*Property Damage (PD) 50
This example means you have $100,000 per person injured and up to a maximum of $300,000 for all the injuries you are responsible for and this example also shows you have $50,000 to pay for damage to the other cars, fences, light poles etc that you damage.
Auto Coverage
This insurance is about protecting your own vehicle and it has 2 parts. “Comprehensive” and “Collision”. This type of coverage is optional.
